After completing his sociology and drama studies, Miel put his expertise in drama to good use by taking the theatre visitor's viewpoint. He loved the internet and by 1997 had started up the theatre review site Moose.nl with a few friends.
Two years later while manning the helpdesk at XS4ALL, he learnt to question the self-evidence of user interfaces. This experience has always made him evaluate (as a web designer and interaction designer) whether or not an extra selection option really aided the visitor. He got to know valsplat as a client. He waxed so enthusiastic that he joined them in June 2008. Miel likes to compare usability with making theatre: successful results don't follow on from a fixed set of rules, but is a constant play between creativity, technical possibility, business interests and the observer's expectations.
