Eye tracking test
Eye movements give you insight into rapid, often unconscious acts and perceptions. What do visitors to your website look at, what distracts them and what makes them become a customer? It's the small things that determine your success. We show these details through eye tracking research.
Zooming in to detail level.
Eye tracking research shows you exactly how your visitors perceive the website. Problems become clearly visible. And visibly clear. You see whether someone can find the correct link and whether he understands a form. If not, then his viewing behavior tells you where he actually was expecting the link and which field he found troublesome.
We use eye tracking research to find out how a design performs. For example, how quickly do visitors see the order button and how long do they then gaze at it before clicking. That determines the effectiveness and efficiency of a design. You can use these figures to select the best design and as a basis for improvement.
How does an eye tracking test work?
Always enough good test users.
Together we look at your visitors' profile. We get the right test users. Six to twelve people are often enough to track down problems in a design. You need more people to measure the success of a design. At least 30, and sometimes even 60, to be able to choose the best design.
Eye spy.
We work with the newest eye tracking equipment. Everything a test user views is recorded with the accuracy of a few pixels and to the micro second. We don't use helmets or spectacles with cameras. That would influence the test. Our eye tracker is in the monitor. The test user doesn't notice a thing and can move around freely.
All set to go means ready to test.
Test users have to be able to work with the website uninterruptedly for reliable eye tracking results. So the site must be virtually finished. Links that don't work or texts that aren't finalized interrupt natural viewing behavior and infect data.
Realistic tasks.
We draw up tasks together with you, based on the situation and your visitors' needs. Test users get started with them. Independently, without our researcher being present.
Getting started.
To track down problems in a design we often organize sessions of an hour to an hour and a half. When we measure the effectiveness and efficiency of a design, the sessions are much shorter. Often 15 minutes to half an hour.
Test users don't think out loud, as they do in a usability test. Each task is evaluated afterwards with the test user. We get him to look back at his own viewing behavior simultaneously. That helps him explain his acts and his thinking. The sessions may be followed live in our observation room. There you see what the test user does and exactly where he is gazing. Very educational, so bring along as many colleagues as possible!
Clear language.
We put down our findings and recommendations on paper. Where necessary, findings are backed up by heat maps (which part of a page gets the most attention?) and gaze plots (in which order is a page viewed?).
Our recommendations clearly show how you can solve problems and improve performance. We use our experiences from previous research and the literature for them. We make recommendations visual. Then you see what we mean at once.
We're keen to come and present results. Then we can discuss the problems but focus on the solutions even more. This can only improve them.
